This page closely echoes a similar page from the end of Chapter 5. And while they’re very similar in structure and even in placement within their respective chapters, just by the amount of story that has happened in between, the meaning of him seeing his old clothes is different. This is the actual moment where Long John realizes that he is not the man he was at the start of this story, though he was surely feeling that might be the case at the end of Chapter 5.
