By the Light of the Moon
Obviously, things are going to get a little weird here. We are hitting a nexus point with the main narrative and what has only been tangential narrative up until this point. Eagle-eyed readers my recognize that we are in the same location as Hellrider Jackie was in the short story, “The Patient Feast”, that exclusively appears in Volume 4. That story, as you may remember, was drawn by Josh Tobey, who had also drawn the previous Hellrider Jackie short story, “Save the Bones”, that can be found on the website or in Volume 1. And, as is evident to anybody that has read the comic and read those stories, Josh and I have completely different styles.
We’ve had Long John encounter the weird stuff in the main narrative before, most notably the “nightmare” pages, but they’ve always been subtle and hints rather than going full weird like I asked Josh to go in his two stories. Therein resides the problem––Josh’s ability to capture such weirdness is exactly why I asked him to draw those stories; it’s not something that comes easily or naturally to me. That being said, the next handful of pages is me getting weird and being pretty happy with it.
